Surf Clams were cast-up onto Kingston Beach, Rhode Island, after a storm. A surf clam is a comparatively large, surf-dwelling clam (family Mactridae). These south coast clams are the common clam (Spisula solidissima) of the Atlantic. It ranges from Nova Scotia to South Carolina. Edible, it is harvested commercially and cut into strips for fried clams.
